Saterbak Advance to National Championship Wissota
Fishers of Men Midwest Regional
Eau Claire, Wisconsin - September 26, 2007 -
More than 110 teams from Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio,
Michigan, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin arrived in
the Chippewa Valley last week. Their final destination
was Lake Wissota, more than 7,000 acres, in search of
both largemouth and smallmouth bass. At stake for
anglers was a first place prize, a Triton TR186 bass
boat powered by a 150 horse power Mercury Optimax ($25,000
dollar prize), and an opportunity to advance to the Fishers
of Men National Championship in March of 2008
Before
the official practice days, MG Lures pro staffer Dave
Saterbak spent two days pre fishing this previously
unknown body of water. Dave said "They were
taking jerkbaits and MG Lures Jerk Shads". However
once the official practice days rolled around, that
pattern and technique did not hold up.
The
previous evening to the start of the tournament brought
severe thunderstorms and gusty winds to the Chippewa
Valley. Some the wind and rain lingered into tournament
day. Dave caught one keeper on a crankbait
in a rapids area of four feet of water and another
on a homemade green pumpkinseed/chartreuse jig with
a MG Lures Rhino craw under a dock. Team Saterbak
ended day 1 with 5.38 pounds for 36th place.
Day 2 proved to be a tougher bite as sun and clear
skies moved in. A downsized finesse jig was key
paired with a MG Lures Rhino Craw for a trailer. Dave
said "day 2 was a lot different than day 1 but the
Rhino Craw still worked." Two smallmouth bass
located on rocky ledges could not resist and added to
day 1 totals, team Saterbak moved up to 30th
overall with 10.49 pounds, but more importantly
the #1 finishing adult/junior team.
As #1 adult/junior team for the Fishers of Men Midwest
Regional, team Saterbak now advances to the Fishers of
Men National Championship held in March in an undisclosed
location. Again team Saterbak will be trying to
win a brand new Triton.
